Spotlight on aircraft seats – from freighters to private jets
Holding both EASA Part 145 and CAA Part 21G and 21J approvals, Starling Aerospace is a leading specialist in the overhaul and refurbishment of aircraft seats, for commercial airlines, cargo operators and corporate and private jets.
Our in-house facility enables every aspect of the complex process of refurbishment to be carried out under one roof by Starling’s expert team of craftspeople with decades of experience behind them.
Starling’s modification work is approved through Minor Modifications with a Form 1 release, so customers can be reassured that a single company is able to manage their project, which includes the certification.
Our business has significant experience in flammability testing for seat materials and we manage all aspects of cabin material flammability testing at our facility, in a dedicated burn chamber. This process facilitates smoke density and heat release qualification for certification, seat foam and cover combination burn tests and the qualifications of all aircraft specific fabrics, leathers, plastics, signage and wiring.
For any aircraft or helicopter seat refurbishment or upgrade project for 9G and 16G certification, Starling Aerospace has the expertise to deliver. Having invested in a state-of-the-art CNC 3-in-1 perforating, stitching and embroidery system and the latest industrial sewing machines, our skilled team of upholsterers will enhance the look and feel of any cabin interior, featuring all soft furnishings, from seat covers to cushions, blankets and decorative headrests. No matter how complex the customer brief, Starling has the aircraft seating expertise to deliver the highest quality finish.
For example, we recently took delivery of some B747 cargo aircraft crew rest seats for a complete overhaul. Our meticulous process included:
Stripping, re-foaming and reupholstering each seat
Replacing airbag lumbar systems
Refurbishing the plastic vac-formed armrests and placards
Applying new Formica on meal tray tables
Removing obsolete IFE controls and ashtrays!
Now fully certified and shipped to the MRO for installation, these seats are heading back to the upper deck of a Boeing 747 Freighter.
At the other end of the scale, Starling also manages the refurbishment of luxury seating for private jets. For example, the business was commissioned by North East of England based business jet operator, Naljets, to undertake a complete interior upgrade for its Cessna Citation CJ aircraft.
As the only long standing business jet charter company based in the North East, Naljets appointed Starling to deliver the end to end project, from design to installation, which took approximately three months. Read the full story here.
